Frequently asked Questions in Library

Can I have direct access to the library collection?

Yes. The some library collections are currently available in the Reading Hall. However, these books can be used only within the Reading Hall and cannot be checked out. A patron can only borrow materials from the Circulation-Desk in the library in order to bring them from the main book store.

Are photocopying and scanning services available in the library?

Yes. The Emirates Library provides clients with self-service photocopying and scanning through using the available facilities with respect to the UAE Copyright law.
If you have any inquiry about the applicable fees, you may refer to the Circulation Desk.

How can I reach the library?

The Emirates Library is on the 2nd floor of the National Archives building. Please see the map for more details.

How can I get the Emirates Library membership card?

National Archives’ Staff ID card serve as their library card.
External users can apply for a Library membership card via the online registration link.

Can I renew my borrowing via the hotline without visiting the library?

Yes. Registered clients can renew their borrowing via the link “My account” in the Library Catalog, which gives them access to log in and immediately renew their borrowing.

What is the maximum number of materials that can be borrowed at once?

For Staff please see the Library for more details.  For external users The maximum number is 2 items for 1 week.

Is there any maximum number of times for “renewing” the materials I borrowed?

Yes. Registered users can renew their borrowing of materials only once..

Can I borrow periodicals?

No. Periodicals are available for in-house use only.

Can I borrow rare books and references?

No. Rare books and references are available for in-house use only.

Can I have access to the library’s electronic resources from outside the National Archives building?

Paid Electronic resources can only be accessed within the National Archives building.  However, some Open Access electronic resources are accessible anywhere.    

Should I visit the Library in personal to get assistance in my research?

It depends on the type of the required assistance and to what extent it is simple or complicated.

Is WI-FI available in the Library?

Yes. Please ask the Circulation Librarian to be provided with this service.
