As part of the “Centennial Initiative” in which all its projects celebrate the “Year of Zayed”, the National Archives is finishing the final stage of the 4th Session of its Student Research Evaluation Project, organized annually in cooperation with Emirates National Schools. These research papers were included in the “Centennial Initiative” and entitled: “On the Footsteps of Our Father Zayed”, in celebration of the “Year of Zayed”. The project targeted 100 research papers that meet the competition’s rules. The National Archives encouraged that participating research papers to highlight the values and achievements of the Founding Leader and promote them among students, with a focus on the values imbedded in the theme of the “Year of Zayed”: Respect, Wisdom, Human Development, and Sustainability.
Within the context of this project, the National Archives trains students, evaluates their research papers and provides them with the documentary and archival tools necessary for the implementation of their research papers. The project attracted about 600 students from all branches of Emirates National Schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Experts and specialists from the National Archives visited the Emirates National Schools and presented a number of workshops to explain the aspects of this project and its desired national and scientific objectives. The National Archives opened its doors to the visiting students who wish to support their research with historical documents, photographs, maps or multimedia.
The research papers of this project, which exclusively target the ninth graders in Emirates National Schools, are not limited to theoretical aspect alone, as the participating group must come out with an awareness and community message that promotes good moral values in society and contributes to the dissemination of national knowledge. This encouraged student to design booklets to promote awareness of the message they arrived to in their research papers, and to carry out information campaigns to reach the targeted audience, as well as to hold specialized meetings in the field of research to strengthen research areas and increase the ability to convince the public, and to distribute gifts and organize events and so on.
Although the National Archives targeted 100 participants only in this competition, it accepted more than 100 research papers, due to students' enthusiasm and serious research efforts. Examples of the participating research papers are: “Sheikh Zayed and Health”, which deals with Sheikh Zayed’s concern of people’s health, the establishment of hospitals and health centers and the awareness of malignant tumors; “Zayed and Poetry”, which reviews the high moral values in Zayed poetry that he instilled in the hearts of people; “Zayed and Sports” which focuses on Zayed’s sports hobbies and his support of  heritage sports and promotion of health through sports; “Zayed and Foreign Relations”,  which discusses the strengthening of relations with various countries of the world and the establishment of UAE international airlines that reach all corners of the world. Students' research papers have included a number of other important titles such as: “Zayed and Human Development”, “Zayed and Infrastructure”, “Zayed and Education” and others.
It is noteworthy that the National Archives will carry out in May the final evaluation of these research papers in order to determine the first three winners from boys and girls’ schools. Students and representatives of the Ministry of Education will participate in the evaluation, which will take one day. Parents accompanying their sons and daughters will be present. Evaluation will be done electronically by presenting the research and voting on it electronically using the latest technology available at Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Auditorium at the National Archives.
The National Archives is keen to ensure that the projects of the “Centennial Initiative” shall be in harmony with the National Archives' mission, vision and objectives.
