National Archives' Role Praised in Keeping Nation's Memory and in Organizing Government Archives National Archives Receives the Iraqi Ambassador

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla El Reyes, Director General of the National Archives, received His Excellency Muwaffaq Mehdi Abboud, the Iraqi Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, who praised and expressed his admiration for the National Archives’ efforts in preserving the memory of the nation, its ancient history, its organization of government archives and its valuable publications in heritage and history.

The Iraqi Ambassador visited the headquarters of the National Archives in Abu Dhabi and met HE the Director General, who briefed him of the history of the National Archives, explaining to him that it was established in 1968 per the instructions of the founding leader, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may his soul rest in peace), and showed him its role in documenting the nation''s memory. HE explained the great development the National Archives has achieved in documenting and archiving, particularly in terms of organizing governmental archives in UAE ministries and official institutions. He went on to describe future aspirations of the National Archives to the Ambassador, such as the establishment of a center for restoration and preservation of documents. During the meeting, HE Dr. El Reyes praised the good relations between the Iraqi National Library and Archive and the National Archives and their constructive cooperation in the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ARBICA) for the interests of the two brotherly countries.

HE briefed the Iraqi Ambassador on the tasks of the National Archives and its objectives, activities and role in organizing the federal and the local government archives in all the emirates.

The Iraqi Ambassador, accompanied by Director General El-Reyes, was given a tour in Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Hall, which has examples of the collections of the National Archives’ rare books, manuscripts, maps, historical photographs documenting the important historical stage of the establishment of the union and the greatest efforts of its founding leaders in building our prosperous nation.
