National Archives and Bahrain’s Isa Cultural Center discuss mechanisms to strengthen cooperation

The National Archives of the United Arab Emirates with Isa Cultural Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain discussed ways of cooperation, exchange of experiences in the areas of historical documents concerning the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and documentation and archiving systems followed in the National Archives. The delegation was briefed on the National Archives’ agenda, its most important national projects, and its strategy that keeps its pace with the 2021 vision of the UAE. 


This came during a visit by the Bahraini delegation to the headquarters of the National Archives, and its meeting with the Director General of the National Archives His Excellency Dr. Abdulla El Reyes. His Excellency, in front of guests, reviewed the stages of the National Archives’ evolution and its national duty that involves collecting the memory of the nation and preserving it for generations to come.  HE the Director General of the National Archives discussed with the guests ways to strengthen relations in areas relevant to the National Archives functions, particularly in terms of millions of historical documents that are found in its international archives. HE explained to them the regulatory role the NA introduces in the organization of its official archives, which is no longer restricted to the State level, but is extended to the regional level.
Dr. El Reyes also gave the delegation the definition of the national campaign, known as "Watheq", which encourages documentation of personal records that forms the basis of the documentation of the history of the nation.  He revealed the large demand for Watheq boxes, which are of the highest standards of protection, and he expressed his happiness about the efforts made by the NA to complete an integrated laboratory for old historical documents restoration, and equipping it with the latest technology according to the highest standards globally.
His Excellency Dr. El Reyes took the Bahraini delegation which included Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees Executive Director of the Isa Cultural Center of the Kingdom of Bahrain; Sheikh Rashid Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Director of the Historical Documentation Center in Isa Cultural Center; and Fawaz Ahmed Sulaiman, International Relations Advisor of the Center in a tour around the National Archives departments and facilities. The delegation also visited the Emirates library that holds tens of thousands of public sources and references, books, and a wealth of specialized books and reference books. The guests showed interest in books dealing with Gulf Region affairs, which include biographies, atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedia in addition to ancient manuscripts and rare, authentic books in Arabic, Dutch, English, German, French, Persian, and Portuguese. There is a section for periodicals in the library as well. The delegation visited the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan hall to view the rare books, historical documents, and documents related to the stages of the Union establishment. They also visited the Department of the Presidential Archive that contains photographs and videos documenting the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan’s activities as well as His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s activities locally and internationally. The Presidential Archive holds old documentaries, and works on restoring, editing, and digitizing them. Furthermore, it has more than sixty-five thousand photographs, more than thirteen thousand celluloid, and it has received 3500 tapes from Abu Dhabi Media Company. The delegation visited the National Archives Press and the advanced and reliable technologies that the National Archives uses while implementing most of its duties.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Executive Director of Isa Cultural Center and his entourage praised the important role the National Archives plays in taking care of the historical documents and seeking to collect and preserve them to perpetuate the homeland’s history for future generations, in addition to organizing workflow, and organizing the archives according to modern technologies and the best global standards and practices.
