The National Archives Publishes Its Annual Report of 2014

The UAE’s National Archives issued its annual report of 2014. It strives to collect historical documents, prevent them from damage, and promote archiving and documentation in the UAE’s archives. This is in addition to its key duty of preserving the Memory of the Nation for future generations.
Dr. Abdulla El Reyes has assured that the NA takes into consideration the international standards and practices of archiving and documentation. It continuously seeks excellence and maintaining high quality performance. This approach turns the NA to be the destination targeted by visitors at the Arab and regional levels to benefit from its professional experience derived from the archives of the most developed countries in the world. It reached this high position through the wise directives and continuous follow up by H.H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the NA’s Board, and by his inspiring thinking. Keeping records for next generations is one of the main aspects of the country’s power and development.
The annual report documents the NA’s activities and events of 2014 to support and push its employees towards leading positions. They strive to achieve more innovation, which is the slogan of 2015, which was set by our wise leadership as the goal of 2015.
The opening pages start with a quote by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founder of the UAE, and the Builder of its renaissance, “Reviving our nation’s and country’s heritage is not only a necessary but also an inescapable duty in order to get people acquainted with our past and how we had lived before we were blessed with prosperity”. Sheikh Zayed’s quote is followed by one from Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, “Preserving and bequeathing heritage to future generations is a key basis of the identity of the UAE’s and AGCC’s people taking into consideration the reasons behind the civilizational development and cultural openness. Following this direction is a main pillar of Sheikh Zayed’s approach”. The report then includes a quote from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, “History is part of the future and the past cannot be separated from the future”. Following that is a quote by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, “Preserving and bequeathing heritage to future generations is a strategic objective that enables the UAE’s people to strengthen their ties and relations with their fathers’ and ancestors’ heritage”. The report adds a quote from Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of the NA’s Board, “Devoting attention to documents and research has become one of the UAE’s top priorities since its foundation in order to assure communication of heritage and its originality with modernity and its challenges”.
By reading these quotes attentively, it is apparent that the NA used them as a map for the national work aiming at protecting the nation’s history and cultural heritage.
H.E. Dr. Abdulla El Reyes, Director General of the NA, began the annual report with a speech entitled “A New Year of Leadership and Innovation in Serving the Memory of the Nation”.
