Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, received at Al Nakheel Palace the National Archives’ delegation, headed by its Director General, Dr. Abdulla El Reyes. Dr. El Reyes presented the results achieved through the national campaign for documenting the personal records, called “Watheq”, and the campaign’s march across the UAE.
The delegation included a number of officers from the National Archives and the team members of “Watheq”.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan listened to Dr. El Reyes explain the campaign’s objectives represented in the participation of Emirati individuals and families, and public figures in collecting their documents, including personal and historical records, and protecting them from loss.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan recognized the NA’s role in preserving the Memory of the Nation and appreciated “Watheq” campaign’s role in preserving the UAE’s history and glorious past in the proper place in order to reach future generations, being a source of knowledge, and standing as a solid evidence for the originality of the UAE’s people.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan directed the officers in the NA to visit the Western Region to have a look at its history, heritage, and life of its people in the past.
He urged the UAE’s citizens to interact with this national campaign, which preserves the past and documents the present by keeping the personal acquisitions of the Emirati citizen, who is the cornerstone of the community and its history and part of the Nation’s history and identity. The keenness of the Emirati citizens on preserving this history represents their loyalty and belonging to the Nation and its wise leadership.
The NA’s Director General assured that the NA’s role at the levels of “Watheq” campaign and organizing the UAE’s official archives indicates its strategy for preserving its documentary heritage. The strategy aims at providing the decision makers and the public with documented and true information and enhancing loyalty and national identity among the citizens.
Dr. El Reyes emphasized the importance of providing the NA with the individuals’ acquisitions, including their personal and historical records to be protected from loss and damage. He expressed his optimism about the results, which will be achieved as the awareness of this campaign grows.
