The National Archives organizes awareness workshops on its national campaign “My Archive My Future”

The National Archives organizes awareness workshops on its national campaign "My Archive My Future" to all educational zones in the UAE.
The National Archives of the United Arab Emirates concluded a number of introductory workshops organized in all UAE educational zones on its new project "My Archive My Future", which targets preparatory and secondary school students. The project aims to educate them about the importance of preserving historical and current documents in addition to archiving methods in order to guarantee raising a promising generation that is aware of the significance of documents as part of the UAE present and future.
Each of the workshops provided a brief outline of the National Archives and its projects, its history and its acquisitions of millions of documents of all kinds as well as its large significant projects in the course of its leading role in safeguarding the memory of the nation. The workshops showed that the documents collected by students shall be part of the memory of the nation in the future. A sample of "My Archive My Future" box, of which the National Archives will distribute 100,000 boxes to students to keep their documents, was displayed. The workshops acquainted the attendees with the importance of the box which is manufactured according to international standards; as It is lightweight, easy to carry, intended to save documents for long, moisture and external factors resistant, acid free and oxidation resistant, user friendly, and accommodates different sizes of historical documents, student’s identification documents, video tapes, photographs and research, etc.
The workshops announced the awards that the National Archives prepared for interested parties. Awards are assigned for the Best Personal Archive, the Best School Archive, the Best Archival Material, and the Ideal Family that encourages children to organize their own archive or a special family archive. The National Archives set the special standards and structure of each award, and specified the categories to participate in this awards.
The workshops urged teachers to help students use the box and educate them about the importance of documents and the mechanism of saving private records and documents for the future according to best practices and standards, and about the necessity of creating personal archives. Through this project, the National Archives seeks to acquaint the UAE youth with their civilizational legacy and their great leaders through the documents. The project also aims at deepening the sense of national identity, belonging and loyalty to homeland in addition to preparing good citizens who dedicate all efforts to their nation.
It is worth mentioning that these workshops were attended by a large number of parties interested in and concerned with delivering the mission of "My Archive My Future" to the students, and following up their activities in their schools and supervising them while collecting and saving documents in their boxes.
