The National Archives have been awarded the International Certificate in Asset Management


The National Archives of the United Arab of Emirates have been awarded the ISO 55001 certification for its asset management system after passing external audits conducted by an international accreditation body. Assets refer to both physical and information assets, such as devices, equipment and documents at the National Archives headquarters, confirming that the historical documents and archives are assets that belong to the State.
This international certification came to add another dimension to the National Archives, allowing it to join the most progressed and developed international archives. It is proof of the high quality and the advanced technologies with which it manages the tasks of organizing the official archives of the State and collecting national historic documents.
“By being awarded this certification, the National Archives proved that it naturally strives to manage and utilize assets according to the highest international standards. It pays great attention to the assets at its headquarters in terms of the method of use and the economics of operations as those in charge of this function believe that this attention is a national duty that would ensure the sustainability of assets. The National Archives pays attention to asset management, both during their life cycle and in terms of prolonging the duration of their use, especially in the context of the management of assets concerning the storage of historical documents in order to extend their life by storing them in accordance with advanced international methods”, said His Excellency Majid Al Mehairi, Executive Director of the National Archives.
He added, “The National Archives adopts an ideal system for physical assets that is built upon scientific bases directing it towards excellence. It spares no effort in maintaining and developing assets to make the most of them, due to the importance of its role in preserving the memory of the nation represented in a set of historical documents, multimedia, equipment and devices that display historical content to researchers and beneficiaries of various segments and ages”.
Al Mehairi also expressed his pleasure at having obtained this international certification that comes as a reward for the continuous efforts and excellent performance of the National Archives in the preservation of all assets. His Excellency thanked the staff of the National Archives for their sense of nationalism and for handling and utilizing the assets with the utmost precision and attention.
