The National Archives in cooperation with the National Newspaper are releasing a supplement titled: “On This Day, Fifty Years Ago... Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan”. This supplement celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of August 6 1966, when the founding leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, took over the reins of power in Abu Dhabi. That day represented a historic turning point and it will remain engraved on the nation’s memory with its timeless impacts. As part of their role and national duty, the National Archives and the National Newspaper cooperated to release this supplement to remind new generations of our nation’s history, and the glorious role of the eternal leader who created a homeland and built a nation.
With this regards to this supplement, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al-Raisi, Director General of the National Archives, stated: Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the National Archives; the National Archives in cooperation with the National Newspaper are releasing a special supplement titled: “On This Day Fifty Years Ago... Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan” to remind new generations of some aspects of the biography of the founding leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan whose values and achievements are still present. As soon as Sheikh Zayed, took over the reins of power; he declared that the country is entering an important historical phase, which was dominated by diligent work seeking prosperity and economic and social development in all emirates. He urged the country towards broad prospects interacting with the surrounding region, the Arab and international world.
His Excellency added: August 6 1966 will remain a memorable day in our history as it represents the dawn of a new beginning. It is a very symbolic day as it represents the great reformation that led to achieving all that is beneficial to the Emirates and paving the road to bring a new country into being: the United Arab Emirates.
His Excellency added: Sheikh Zayed had a vision that was manifested in what he offered to the people. He always considered the people as the real treasure of the nation. Sheikh Zayed rose steadily to power and fame as the Emir of Abu Dhabi and has gained great fame as the leader of the political unity of the seven emirates. The United Arab Emirates emerged as a rich, prosperous, stable, and secure country thanks to the diligent and tireless efforts of the founding President and the Emirs of the Emirates and their wise and benevolent leadership.
Al-Raisi pointed out that after a half century, and on August the sixth 2016, it is time to look at the past and reflect with admiration and reverence on the reforms and the outstanding development initiated by Sheikh Zayed. The process that was initiated fifty years ago left a longlasting legacy of great contributions of Sheikh Zayed "the father of the nation". He will remain a source of inspiration, liberality and influence towards his capable successors who are the best successors to the best predecessor. This abstract, accompanied with photos of unique and unprecedented achievements of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, presents a homage, and a tribute of love and loyalty to the symbol, the leader who will remain immortal in the memory of the nation.
His Excellency, the Director General of the National Archives, thanked the National Newspaper for its constructive cooperation and its balanced, moderate, fair and objective national role in the media, which fosters the positive spirit of the readers.
As for this supplement, His Excellency stated: The anniversary of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, taking over the reins of power; represents a start of an important political phase in the history of the region. He was the driving force behind the efforts to establish a federal state of the seven emirates that were known before as the Trucial Coastal States.
His Excellency appreciated the role of the National Archives in collecting the memory of the nation and maintaining it for future generations. He also praised the initiative to release this supplement titled: “On This Day Fifty Years Ago... Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan” celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Sheikh Zayed taking over the reins of power and reminding us of some of the achievements of the founding leader.
